If you're in NYC today around NYU, I'm presenting at the HackNY Masters conference. I'll be presenting at 8:30---the topic being "3 Statistical Tricks Every Hacker should know."
This will be a painless and generally theory-free introduction to tools that statisticians use all the time, along with practical implementations in R and python. I'll cover easy forecasting, predicting yes/no outcomes, and testing whether sets of numbers are really different, or just /seem/ different. You can chain these together, and probably conquer the world.
Code is here: https://github.com/mittenchops/hackNYmasters
Slides are in the repo, too.
Check out the students demos tomorrow: Sunday, September 29th from 12pm-2pm. Registration is https://www.eventbrite.com/event/8479667915
